Hannibal’s Animals
There was a soldier, many centuries ago.
He decided to invade Rome, a long way to go.
He started in Africa and needed to ride.
He chose war elephants, side by side.
They began from Carthage, far away,
traveling along the coast, to arrive some day.
Over the Alps, the elephants went,
moving and steady, where they were sent.
Some men rode and some men walked,
The elephants journeyed on and never balked.
They arrived in Rome, a complete surprise,
they were a total shock to the Roman’s eyes!
